The 7th of September is the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, also marked globally as #CleanAirDay, and EASVOLEE stands at the forefront of Europe’s effort to combat air pollution and protect public health. The awareness day was established by the United Nations Environment Programme, following UN General Assembly resolution 74/212, to highlight the growing urgency of tackling air pollution and to mobilize collective action worldwide.
The 2025 theme “Racing for Air. Every Breath Matters” calls on governments, businesses, researchers, and communities to accelerate their actions for clean air and healthier living environments. This year’s theme perfectly resonates with the EASVOLEE project (Effects on Air Quality of Semi-VOLatile Engine Emissions), whose mission is to advance our understanding of how vehicle emissions contribute to secondary aerosol formation, one of the major drivers of poor air quality and its associated health impacts.
Launched in 2023 under the Horizon Europe programme, EASVOLEE is working through laboratory studies, real-world driving emission measurements, atmospheric modeling, and health impact assessments to provide the evidence base needed for more effective policies and technological innovations in line with the European Green Deal.
The EASVOLEE project supports the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies 2025 by raising awareness on the effects of transport-related pollutants, informing policymakers with cutting-edge scientific evidence, and mobilizing action for healthier and more sustainable cities. Its research not only strengthens air quality management strategies but also empowers communities across Europe and beyond to protect both human health and the environment.
EASVOLEE is a crucial contributor to Europe’s clean air ambitions, actively bridging the gap between science, policy, and society. By aligning its work with this year’s theme “Racing for Air. Every Breath Matters”, EASVOLEE reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that the knowledge it generates is not only scientifically robust but also actionable for stakeholders at all levels.
Let us come together this 7 September to race for clean air, because air pollution knows no borders, and every breath matters.
